A small story told in Basilicata: 

Prior to the Rice speech, Kennedy had been attending a briefing by launch director Rocco Petrone at Merritt Island, Florida.

The Rice speech contained the famous "We choose to go to the Moon" refrain—one of the most quoted presidential phrases ever spoken. 

But only Rocco knew if that was possible. 

Moral of the story:
